Spiritual Life
Brian Atkins has always been a self-help junkie. He loves learning and growing, because
he feels it helps us make the most of our precious lives. He became aware of the
importance of his spiritual life back in 1994 when he was introduced to Unity.
He felt drawn to the belief system, with its emphasis on applying spiritual principles
to everyday life. Then in 1996, he migrated over to Religious Science. Religious
Science impressed him because it is based on scientific principles. His involvement
in Religious Science taught him to appreciate the role of a practitioner in a church.
In 2002, he earned the distinction of practitioner at Seaside Church of Religious Science
in Encinitas, California. His role as a practitioner has been one of the most rewarding
experiences of his life.
Career
Having spent most of his teenage years in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at the age of 18 Brian
moved to San Diego, California, and earned a bachelor’s degree in business
administration from the University of San Diego in 1983. Next, he joined Muir Technical
College as an instructor, teaching spreadsheets, databases, accounting, and
telecommunications there while simultaneously earning a master’s degree from
National University in business administration with an emphasis in information systems.
In 1987, he joined Vortex Data Systems as a LAN installation specialist, and shortly
thereafter was approached by Lender Support Systems. He joined the team at LSSI in 1988
with the titles of assistant vice president, LAN administrator, and senior developer.
In 1994, he went on to become a Novell certified engineer, but his primary focus was
database programming. He developed the first document-preparation system to be marketed
by LSSI, and today he continues in his role with LSSI as the senior developer on LSSI
servicer.
Hobbies
Brian’s hobbies include surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, partner dancing, and
Toastmasters—where he is currently ranked as ATM Silver.
The Future Brian’s years as a practitioner in Religious Science have taught him
the importance of reaching out to others. Today he is pursuing a new role in life as a
teacher. He believes our purpose in life is to help others, and he feels a true calling
to teach others how to get the most out of their lives.
