Rev. Fran brings a wealth of experience to
Seaside as its Artistic Director. After studying for
approximately 14 years, obtaining a practitioner’s license
and a minister’s license, and receiving a bachelor’s degree
in religious studies, Rev. Frances Loskota-Christ became an
ordained minister in September 2004, at a formal ceremony
presided over by Rev. Dr. Marcia J. Hootman.
Her musicianship spans a lifetime as a professional.
She began as an organist in her youth at Fallbrook Methodist
Church, later becoming Music Minister for Dr. Tom Sannar and
pianist/soloist and Assistant Music Director for Dr. Harry
Morgan Moses. Her internship as minister was served at
Dr. Marilyn Hall’s Center for Creative Living, conducting
Wednesday night services, creating and directing the choir,
and scheduling weekly guest artists. She has been a musical
disciple of Dr. Rickie Byars Beckwith since 1991. Rev.
Fran performed weekly at nearly all the Religious Science
centers/churches in San Diego County prior to her accepting
her present assignment at Seaside–from Dr. Jane Claypool’s
church in Carlsbad, to Dr. Gay Beauregard’s church in
Alpine, to many retreats, seminars, and conventions.
During the course of her long professional musical
history, she has performed as soloist, pianist, keyboard
player, and “standup singer” in many venues, including
top-forty bands, solo gigs, and singers for various bands in
San Diego. She led her own band, Flyte, for many years,
performing a wide range of popular material. Her
composing of pop material resulted in 14 copyrights.
Writing when called, she composes many of the
call-to-worship songs she has sung at Seaside for the last
few years. She retains many friendships and
connections in the music world in San Diego.
Rev. Fran’s other lifetime “gigs” included flight
attendant, surfboard salesperson, bookkeeper, real-estate
sales person, legal secretary, insurance representative, and
housecleaner, not to mention her long-time ongoing work as
Instructional Assistant II at Vista Unified School District,
her job at the Church of the Westgate, and “Chief Domestic
Engineer” for Karl and Charlie.
“Connecting the dots” as Artistic Director for Seaside
has been an immense pleasure to Rev. Fran, as has working
alongside Dr. Christian and Rev. Tammy, who always prove
inspirational. The friendships and professionalism
among the musicians, staff members, and all the
practitioners, congregants, and friends of Seaside are
uplifting, heartwarming, and inspiring to Rev. Fran.
Rev. Fran resides in Oceanside with her fabulous husband
of 25 years, Karl, and their dog, Charlie. She enjoys
gardening, crafts, painting, and reading.
